Foggy Morning Chores

It’s another mild fall day. The sun is shining, but it is working extra hard because there is a rather thick fog this morning. I started walking to the barn through the grass that was drenched by the foggy conditions. I immediately knew that wearing my barn Crocs was a mistake, but I was too lazy to go back in the house to put on my rubber boots. I would just deal with damp socks this morning.
We have been lucky to not have had freezing temperatures so far for being so late into October. Because of these conditions, the chickens have been able to enjoy a longer stay than usual in the pasture this season. Once we get the freezes, we have to bring the chickens down to their winter quarters as we don’t want the hanging waterers to freeze. Winter quarters includes a different waterer that can be placed on a metal heater plugged into electric power to keep water from freezing all winter.

Driving the tractor up into the field to bring the flock their daily allotment this morning, I got to the top of the hill and couldn’t help but notice how the field was shrouded in fog. I could just see where the hens were. Since they could hear the tractor coming up from the barn, they were waiting for us inside the fence as close as they could get to where we were coming. The fog gave off a sullen mood that I didn’t doubt would soon be lifted once the sun rose higher in the sky.
I feel like I’m in a fog today. I’ve been feeling off the last few days. I’m not sure if I’m coming down with something or it’s deeper than that. Not only that, I’m prepping today for a colonoscopy tomorrow (I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today – just popped into my head. Only the oldsters will catch the reference). I don’t think this will be a good day for me. I’m going to try to preoccupy myself with taking photos of my bracelets. Fingers crossed that the distraction works. 🤞🏻

And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
